Make reusables mainstream
Saukhyam has been instrumental in consumer behaviour change towards sustainable menstruation. Saukhyam, a project of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, has been a pioneer in making upcycled pads a reality. Anju Bist, managing director, Saukhyam has been critical to making menstrual pads from banana fibre accessible to women in rural India. 85% of the workforce at Saukhyam consists of rural women from the state of Kerala, trained through their micro-entrepreneurship program. Their vision for the program is to scale up and reach 1000’s of rural women. This will help in training them to become micro entrepreneurs and set up manufacturing units.
Saukhyams model of training and involving women in the production process and marketing extensively helps them to easily reach a larger customer base while providing livelihood opportunities. Saukhyam’s reach in generating public awareness on menstrual hygiene and health of adolescent and young women has also grown multi fold through consistent training, social media presence and outreach. 500,000 women have made the switch to Saukhyam Reusable Pads, helping prevent the emission of 2000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually. This has also helped eliminate 43,750 tons of non-biodegradable menstrual waste since inception. They are truly a venture creating both climate and social impact in parallel
Creating a team of micro entrepreneurs to serve as the focal point of distribution and sales in rural India as a step towards their vision can be made a reality, through your donations.
